Lost the password HSMM MESH Node (Solved)

I just tried this as well. Same results. I can SSH in but I have to supply the root login and my node's password every time. I would like to be able to SSH into the node without knowing the password.

I'm not familiar with linux and just starting out with BBHN and networking in general. Any SSH tips?

Answer

Found a way that works.

Here's how. Upload public key file to etc/dropbear directory and rename file to authorized_key or if the file already exists, append public key to to it by copying and pasting. Chmod 600. Run Pageant: upload private key; enter passphrase; close window.

In Putty, enter login name in Connection>Data: Auto-login username. In Session: choose SSH; port 2222. Save configuration. Login without typing username or password. This now works with WinSCP using SSH as well.

*** Note: There was already an authorized_key on my mesh with a public key inside. Not sure why. Do the mesh routers need SSH to talk to each other? I would check before replacing the file with your public key. Just append your public key to this file for now. 7

Here's one site that gives a step-by-step (note this is assuming you are coming in from a Linux/Unix system - my previous answer was specifically for Putty):
